Writing the Email in Spanish and English: Brief Recommendations.

Dr. María Nayra Rodríguez Rodríguez, a member of the IATEXT, and Dr. Soraya García-Sánchez have recently published an electronic style recommendation guide in Spanish "Writing E-mail in Spanish and English: Brief Recommendations."

This document has suggestions for the correct use of Spanish and English in institutional emails, that is, it is intended to provide basic guidance on this topic. The guide is divided into two chapters, the first with style tips for preparing e-mails in Spanish and the second, with insights for e-mails in English for an institutional recipient.

María Teresa Cáceres, Professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and member of the IATEXT together with Marcos Salas Doctor in Biology from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and member of the IUNAT have recently published in The Conversation: “What is more speedy, a banana or a conqueror? ”.

There are numerous cultivation exchanges between Europe, Asia and Africa during the 15th and 16th centuries due to the contacts that these societies had. With this article, both researchers delve into the expansion of crops, taking as an example the banana or also called banana in the New World, whose first concrete reference is found in 1516 when Fray Tomás de Berlanga brought the bananas from the Canary Islands to the island of Santo Sunday.

Seminario Internacional online - "La gestión de la salud pública en las ciudades portuarias atlánticas (siglos XIV-XXI)".

El seminario se celebrará el 15 de octubre y tendrá como temática general: "La gestión de la salud pública en las ciudades portuarias atlánticas (siglos XIV-XXI)". Este seminario lo organiza la Red Internacional La Gobernanza de los Puertos Atlánticos (siglos XIV-XXI). Daniel Castillo Hidalgo, investigador de la División de Patrimonio e Historia Atlántica (DPHA) del IATEXT y Secretario de PORMAR es su co-organizador junto a Ana María Rivera Medina (UNED).

El IATEXT fue el lugar de acogida del 5º Coloquio Internacional de esta red en 2017, organizado por los profesores Miguel Suárez Bosa y Daniel Castillo Hidalgo, ambos pertenecientes a la DPHA. La Cátedra PORMAR colabora en su organización, al igual que la red COOPMAR y la Fundación para la Historia de España (Argentina).

Doctors Elena Curbelo Tavío and Alexis Moreno García, members of the University Institute for Textual Analysis and Applications (IATEXT), have published in The Conversation “The Greco-Latin origins of what they tell us about the La Palma volcano”. In this article they link the volcanic eruption that has taken place on the Canary Island with the classical languages ​​by presenting a small glossary in which they present an etymological analysis of some scientific terms related to volcanology that help us to better understand its origin and its Greco-Latin past..
