María Teresa Cáceres Lorenzo, Professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and member of the IATEXT has published recently in The Conversation: "The place names are neither good nor bad, but cultural richness" together with Marcos Salas Pascual Researcher associated with the Institute of Environmental Studies and Natural Resources, University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Historically, place names have served to designate geographical points but we all know that "they define something more than the proper names of a place, they glimpse a history, useful information for many sciences (botany, demography, ethnography , geography, philology, etc.), but above all they are part of the life and culture of the people of each environment, and therefore they are generators of feelings and expression of a cultural link."

Professor Trinidad Arcos has participated in the program "Canarias es cultura" of the RTVC.

The Professor and member of IATEXT, Trinidad Arcos Pereira has participated in the program "Canarias es Cultura" on Radio Televisión Canaria.

The program that took place on Sunday, May 5, 2023 was focused on aboriginal archeology in the Canary Islands. Arcos Pereira spoke about  the first mentions of the Canary Islands in history books, a line of research in which has specialized and therefore has numerous publications.

The Elder Museum of Science and Technology, located in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has presented on Thursday, June 29, 2023, an exhibition called "CANARIAS from history to the present..." in which IATEXT collaborates with the "Web platform for the morphogenetic study of the lexicon".

This exhibition  will have different themes that will be presented with workshops and live shows: the volcanic origin of the archipelago, demographic evolution, the era of conquest and colonization, the new Canarian society and the modern Canaries of the present, the flora and fauna of the archipelago, the technological and innovation Canaries, …  The educational games, computer applications and historical recreations will delve into why the Canary Islands are truly lucky…

IATEXT participates in the creation of the CLARIAH-ES infrastructure

On June 15 and 16, 2023, the creation of the CLARIAH-ES infrastructure is celebrated in Alicante, which will allow Spain and its research centers to integrate into the ERIC European research infrastructures together with others 20 EU Member States.

The objective of the meeting is to sign the collaboration framework of the 10 representatives: University of the Basque Country, University of Santiago de Compostela, University of Alicante, National University of Distance Education, Barcelona Supercomputing Center-National Supercomputing Center, Complutense University of Madrid,  University of Jaén, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), National Library of Spain and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canarias through the University Institute of Textual Analysis and Applications.
