CLARIN Knowledge Centre

The CLARIN Knowledge Centres (K-Centres) are one of the cornerstones of the CLARIN Knowledge Infrastructure (KI). Their role is to ensure a continuous transfer of knowledge among all the agents involved in the development, operation, and use of this infrastructure. The mission of the CLARIN KI is to guarantee that the available knowledge is not presented as a collection of disconnected fragments, but is accessible in an organized manner, both for the CLARIN community and for the broader research community in the social sciences and humanities.

The Role of K-Centres

CLARIN's work focuses on collecting linguistic resources from all modalities, regions, and topics that are useful for researchers and educators from any discipline in which language plays an essential role. These resources can be used as an object of study, a means of communication or expression, a tool for storing and extracting information, in teaching and learning activities, or in data-based analyses. The K-Centres share their knowledge and expertise in various academic fields with which the CLARIN infrastructure works.While they are primarily based in the consortium's member countries, they can also be found beyond those borders. IATEXT's Knowledge

IATEXT is an interdisciplinary university research institute, specialized in textual analysis and applications. It has over 70 researchers distributed across nine divisions in the fields of Social Sciences and Digital Humanities, as well as a division dedicated to Computational Linguistics and IT Applications.

This team contributes to CLARIN with its expertise in the following IATEXT research areas:

  • Analysis of sociodemographic processes and structures.
  • Territorial analysis of trade, transportation, and their networks, with a focus on their their spatial impact and the trends associated with their development.
  • Discourse analysis, its textual interpretation, and the use of geographic information technologies.
  • Analysis of historical scientific texts, especially medical ones.
  • Discourse analysis and the study of the development of grammars, dictionaries, and usage manuals in different languages.
  • Analysis of figurative language as a mechanism for categorizing reality.
  • Search engines with linguistic intelligence.
  • Categorization and classification of texts.
  • Construction of the Spanish state in the 18th century.
  • Creation and management of corpora at the morphological and syntactic levels.
  • Development of web applications for searching research results.

  • Digitization and cataloging of written texts and oral sources from the Canary Islands’ Historical Memory Archive (AMHC).
