Cities of Africa: From the mythical Timbuktu to the twitter era (ss. XIX-XXI)
This cycle of conferences will be held from March to July 2017 (once a month). The second one will be given by Dr. Daniel Castillo Hidalgo this thursday May 25 at 19:00. He teaches African Economic History (MA Degree) and forms part of the Heritage and Atlantic History Division at the IATEX, University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. His conference deals with the evolution of urban functions in Africa in the long term where he will explore the path-dependence and path-creation processes tied to the colonial and post-colonial affairs. Hence, Castillo will present the existent linkages that appears in African urban-evolution between the first half of the nineteenth century and the early twenty-first century and how traditional features and globalization dynamics interacted there.
