In this article, Márquez explains and reveals the importance that the Canarian author gave to the female characters in each of his works. It emphasizes that, in terms of Galdós' theatrical production, “seventeen of the twenty-one plays written and premiered were led by women. All of them were characterized by being great defenders of the right of women to develop in life according to their desires.”
Many of those characters are listed below: Tristana (1892), Victoria de The madwoman of the house (1892), Countess Halma de Halma (1895), Benigna de Mercy (1897) or even Lucrecia de Grandfather (1897). All of them are represented by Galdós as fighters and independent.
