The ULPGC hosts the 5th International Conference of The Governance of Atlantic Ports

The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the IATEXT will be the hosting institutions of the 5th International Meeting of the Governance of the Atlantic Ports from november 30th up to december 2, 2017. This conference is organized by Miguel Suárez Bosa and Daniel Castillo Hidalgo, the both belonging to the IATEXT (Documentation, Heritage and Atlantic History).

The main topic of the Conference is "Ports and Development" and the opening will be the thursday 30 november at 9am at the Hall of the Faculty of Humanities (Campus del Obelisco). After this official inauguration, the work sessions will develop at the siege of the Instituto Universitario de Análisis y Aplicaciones Textuales (IATEXT).

A full programme of seventeen (17) parallel sessions organized by topics are foreseen for november 30 and december 1.  In addition, two keynote lectures will be adressed by international specialists. The first will be lectured by the Professor Sandro Mendonça, from the ISCTE (Portugal) and the University of Sussex (United Kingdom) about "Schumpeterian seaports: A comprehensive review of technical progress and institutional innovation of a global dynamic industry" (30 november, 18:45, Hall of the Faculty of Humanities). The second keynote lecture will be presented by the Professor Ayodeji Olukoju, from the University of Lagos (Nigeria). He will lecture on "African Seaports and Development in historical perspective". This second conference will be held at Casa Africa (18:45).

To conclude, the organization has organized a guided visit to the viewpoints of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for the saturday 2 december.

The IATEXT is one of the key partners for this meeting. It has provided financial and logistical support. Furthermore, Carlos Suárez (Assistant Research Engineer) will be in charge of all social-media issues during the Conference.
