The Institute in Text Analysis and Applications (IATEXT) leads a Network of Excellence financed by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (MINECO)
The Division of Research, Heritage and Atlantic History at the IATEXT has been granted financing by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness for the purpose of revitalizing a “Network of Excellence” within the National Programme for Fostering Excellence in Scientific and Technical Research, also financed by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness.
Dr. Miguel Suárez Bosa, a tenured professor working at the Division of Research, Heritage and Atlantic History, will lead the Network for Excellence as Head Researcher. The Network is called "La Gobernanza de los Puertos Atlánticos, siglos XIV-XXI" (“The Governance of Atlantic Harbors from the 14th to the 21st Century” (HAR2016-81812-REDT)), and it belongs to the category of Thematic Networks, where more than a hundred researchers from both Spanish and foreign universities participate.
This Network of Excellence is the only one attained by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the past competitive selection process, and it is only one of the few that have received funding from the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness within the field of humanities in the whole country.
The grant amounts to 20,000 euros, the highest sum awarded to projects of our field in the present call, and it is meant for an execution period of two years.
