Objectives and Services
The CLARIAH-IATEXT node aims to promote the development of Digital Humanities and Digital Social Sciences in the Canary Islands by encouraging the participation of research groups from the archipelago in the European infrastructures CLARIN and DARIAH.
Its main objectives include:
- Facilitating the integration of Canary Islands research teams into international networks, strengthening the visibility of their results and their participation in competitive research projects.
- Promoting training in Digital Humanities, Artificial Intelligence, and the use of digital research infrastructures.
- Encouraging interoperability, multilingualism, open science, and the reuse of resources, in line with the principles of CLARIAH-ES and the European Research Area.
- Supporting research groups in the preparation of project proposals and in accessing national and international funding calls.
In line with these objectives, and by virtue of its recognition as a K-Centre by CLARIN, the CLARIAH-IATEXT node offers the following services:
- Advice and consultancy in the Spanish language and in the different research areas of IATEXT.
- Technological guidance for the preparation and drafting of competitive research projects.
- Preparation of expert technical reports in the field of Digital Humanities.
- Implementation of the InteLiText exploitation model, which covers the entire workflow: document digitisation, text recognition, computational processing, corpus creation, and the development of technological resources for information extraction.
- Development of web applications for data classification and annotation, as well as linguistically intelligent search engines applied to corpora, digitised texts, and documentary archives.
- Design of specific technological solutions tailored to the needs of each project.
- A temporary preservation and hosting service on the IATEXT server for applications developed for the Digital Social Sciences and Humanities that may face continuity problems on the Internet, with the possibility of agreements for their maintenance.
Thanks to this combination of strategic objectives and CLARIN-recognised services, the CLARIAH-IATEXT node is consolidating its role as a reference point in the Canary Islands for digital research in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and as a bridge connecting the region with the main European initiatives in this field.
